Getting Around London from Kings Cross

Six tube lines, the Elizabeth line, mainline trains, and Eurostar — Kings Cross is the best-connected station in London. Here’s how to use it.

Kings Cross St Pancras is, by almost any measure, the most connected transport hub in the United Kingdom. Six Underground lines, the Elizabeth line (from adjacent Farringdon), Thameslink, Great Northern, Hull Trains, Grand Central, and the Eurostar international terminal all converge here. You can reach virtually any part of London, and several European cities, directly from this one complex.

If you’re arriving with luggage, Kings Cross Luggages at 11 Euston Road is a 2-minute walk from the station exit. Drop your bags from £5 (open 09:00–19:00) and then you can travel light on every connection.

Underground Lines from Kings Cross St Pancras

Six lines connect here — more than any other station in London.

🟥 Piccadilly Line

Direct to Heathrow Airport (45–50 min), and west through Central London via Russell Square, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Green Park, and Hyde Park Corner.

🟥 Victoria Line

Fast and frequent. South to Victoria, Brixton, and connections for Gatwick Express. North to Highbury & Islington and Walthamstow. One of the quickest ways to reach the West End.

🟥 Northern Line

South to London Bridge, Waterloo, Bank, and Borough Market. North to Archway and Edgware. The Bank branch connects directly to the City of London financial district.

🟥 Metropolitan Line

Connects through Baker Street (Madame Tussauds, Sherlock Holmes Museum) and out to Harrow, Watford, and Amersham. Also through to Farringdon and Liverpool Street.

🟥 Circle Line

Loops around Central London hitting Paddington, Notting Hill Gate, South Kensington (Natural History Museum, V&A), Embankment, and Tower Hill (Tower of London).

🟥 Hammersmith & City Line

East to Whitechapel and Barking, or west to Paddington, Shepherd’s Bush, and Hammersmith. Useful for reaching east London’s creative districts.

Kings Cross is huge — allow extra time

The Kings Cross St Pancras underground complex is one of the largest in the network. Walking between the Northern line and the Piccadilly line can take 5–8 minutes. Build in time if you have a connection to make.

Avoid the Northern line in rush hour

The Northern line at Kings Cross is extremely busy between 08:00–09:30 and 17:30–19:00. If you’re heading south, the Victoria line is often faster and less crowded.
